Introduction:
Update: Visit here again at 20210724, update with more pictures
Where? : Located on the south section of the bay waterfront salt pools near Alviso
What? : A recommended visit to those 2 similar parks on the east side of the bay waterfront, walking around the large saltwater pools of the South Bay, enjoy the hike and the bird watching.
When? : because this is flat open space without any tree it is not recommended to hike at hot summer days or when it is windy. Depending on birds it is usually better to visit at the winter months.
Due note: the Amtrak trains pass on the track between the pools, so do not walk on the tracks.
The Visit:
There
are two similar parks to visit in this area:
Don Edwards Environmental Education Center: During weekend park your car at the gate parking lot and walk along the path that connects to the closed visitor center. Continue over the wooden bridge and walk-board and the embankments that surround the large salt pool.
Do a full loop and return to the visitor center, a total easy 4.2 miles loop.
Alviso Marina County Park: The more popular section is at Alviso Marina, here you can hike or bike the 9-mile loop (boat ramp for Kayaking is also available).
Both parks are connected to the paved bike path system of the South Bay, Palo-Alto to San Jose, so you can get there by bike.

My Thoughts: This is more like an exercise hike than nature trip. You can have nice birds viewing but because this is an open landscape I will not recommend visiting here when there is a lot of cold wind at the afternoon... or at hot summer day.
